First Week.

Classes somehow look different on a schedule sheet than they feel in reality. Everything distends itself to some disproportionate size that seems almost insurrmountable. In the case of Calc. II, I believe I have finally met my match. I have not had calcI since 4 semesters ago and it appears as though everything that I learned evaporated from my poor head. Lecture yesterday felt like she took a club to brain and beat it to a pulp! Haha :D

The whole lecture (calc II) felt like some bad dream...jumping from one idea to another at lightning speed over topics that I vaguely recollected that refused to form into any solid idea; remaining in a cloud of mystification and confounded at my lack of recall and apparent lack of memory of any shred of useful information.

My other classes are good and I'm super super excited about my ecology/evo. class! The lab and lecture are awesome and the professor is one of the best of my college career. Yet that lingering feeling of inadequacy, like I'm some fraud dunce amongst geniuses. Maybe I'm being a bit insecure, but seriously some of the stuff it feels like the profs are continuuing some sentence that I missed the first 100 pages of (metaphorically speaking). I'm just going to have to actually, finally step up to the plate and play the game. Up to this point my semesters have been more busy work than anything else. This semester will be a challenge, which will be a nice change of pace.

I think I'm going to drop calcII and pick it up over the summer because the amount of coursework for each of my classes while attempting to relearn an entire semester of calc will prove to be a futile losing effort. I'd like to say I "toughed it out", but this I feel is no instance to let my pride into the mix.

My brother just said that someone who he worked closely with yesterday was out with the flu today so hopefully no flu for him nor for me! :-/

With so much to do and so little time I have to ask God to help me..since he controls the whole time-space continuum anyway ;)

Muse of the Day.

I think I will start posting some verses that stick out to me when I read the Bible and occasionally commentary from Maccarthur that I found further explicates a passage.

This evening I looked at Hebrews 7. It was talking about how Jesus was descendent from Melchizadek, a high priest in the Old Testament, and not from Levi. I guess the Levites were typically highpriests for the Israelites and Jewish people under the Mosaic law. Jesus Christ is the last (and eternal) high priest having fulfilled and satisfied the mosaic law that bound the Jews from a close relationship with God. Now through Jesus Christ we may enter into a close relationship with God.

about the the old law...NKJV(Hebrews 7:18-19) "For on the one hand there is annulling of the former commandment because of its weakness and unprofitableness, for the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God."

of the change in priesthood from the tribe of Levi to the tribe of Judah and the necessity of the nature of the law thence to change: Hebrews 7: 11-17

Hebrews is some pretty heavy stuff but it is just abundant in theology and provides greater understanding of how it all works (e.g. why the law changed; how the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross was able to pay for the sin of all people in the world of all time) and in my opinion greater understanding reaps greater commitment and provides the foundation for "dynamic faith".

There were also a few small passages in Psalms:
Ps. 111:10 "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His Praise endures forever."

That part about "do His commandments" reminds me a lot of the book of James in the New Testament. In James 1:22-26 (NKJV) it says "But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his nautral face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetfu hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does."

Later in chapter 2 of James, James (the half brother of Jesus Christ) he goes on to say that only faith saves, but serving others is the evidence in our lives of our faith in Christ. He goes as far as to say that faith without works is dead. (This is certainly not to say that salvation is earned, rather it is what we do as a result of the redemptive and transformative work of Christ in our lives). Check out James 2: 14-26

All's well that ends well.

Phew! I just got back from Anatomy and physiology lecture (night classes are a killer sometimes, but sleeping in is nice) and I had my exam for part of it. I was so nervous about it! I didn't even get a chance (due to poor time management) to study all of the material (above listening really well in the lecture). Thank God, my studying must have been directed the bit that I did do because I knew everything on the test. That's not to say that I didn't get a few wrong, but overall I felt solid on the information. Now I can really focus on my English lit class and everything else until the next big event. It definitely helps that we have off for fall break on monday and tuesday. It seems whenever I get large amounts of free time I always blow it, so hopefully I can use my time wisely then to study all that I have.:)
